Thierry de Montbrial (X-Mines and PhD in Economics from the University of Berkeley) is a French economist and geopolitical scientist. His doctoral thesis dealt with the temporal dimension in the economic theory of general equilibrium, under the direction of Professor Gérard Debreu (Nobel Prize in Economics in 1983).

He was president of the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI), a think tank he founded in 1979. He has been a member of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences since 1992 and president of the World Policy Conference (WPC) which he created in 2008.

He was a professor at the Ecole Polytechnique, held the chair of “applied economics and international relations” at the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (CNAM) and taught geopolitics at the Paris Institute of Political Studies. He notably set up the Center for Analysis and Forecasting (CAP).
