Jean Tirole (X-Ponts, PhD from MIT) is Director of Studies at the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS), President of the Jean-Jacques-Laffont Foundation – Toulouse School of Economics (TSE), Scientific Director of the Institute of Industrial Economics (IDEI) in Toulouse, founding member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse (IAST) 4 and visiting professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He was elected to the Académie des sciences morales et politiques in 2011, and in 2014, he received the “Nobel Prize in Economics”, “for his analysis of market power and regulation”. His research, which has been published in numerous books and articles, has focused on industrial economics, with a particular emphasis on the regulation of network industries and the banking system, corporate finance, international economics, and incentive mechanisms within a firm. He received the Grand Prix Turgot in 2017 for his body of work.
